HOW TO ORGANISE YOUR SMALL LIVING ROOM

1. Use Multifunctional furniture

Ottomans with built-in storage are lifesavers in small living rooms. You can stash away blankets, pillows, board games, or anything else you need to keep out of sight, but readily accessible.  Plus, they provide extra seating when you have guests!

2. Install Floating Shelves

Traditional bookshelves can feel bulky in small spaces.  Floating shelves are your new best friends!  They add storage space without sacrificing floor area, and visually “lighten up” the walls, making your living room feel more spacious.

You can add your books, flower vases, small picture frames and other small décor on your floating shelves to create a cosy yet tidy living room.

3. Get Nesting coffee Tables

Coffee tables are essential, but not if they take up too much precious floor space.  The solution? go for nesting tables!  These clever space savers consist of smaller tables that tuck neatly under a larger one when not in use. When you need extra surface, simply pull out a nested table for instant functionality.

4. Get throw Baskets

We all love our decorative throw blankets and books, but too many can make a small space feel cluttered. Throw blanket baskets are perfect for corralling small items like magazines, toys, or throws.  They add a touch of texture and keep your living room looking tidy.

5. Ditch standing lamps for sconces

Floor lamps are great, but they can steal valuable floor space.  You should consider sconces instead! Sconces are wall-mounted light fixtures that are equally bright and will not involve sacrificing you limited floor space.  They come in various styles to complement your décor and add a touch of sophistication. You can check out some great affordable sconces here.

6.  Get a TV console with drawers

A TV console is a nice-to-have in most living rooms, but when you are trying to maximise space, you should go for a console with drawers and cabinets.

Not only will it look great under your TV, but it also provides hidden storage for electronics, movies, games, and anything else you need to tuck away. Look for consoles with a sleek design to avoid a bulky feel.

7. Limit what you put on the coffee table

Our coffee tables often become dumping grounds for random stuff. But in a small living room, every surface counts. So, be selective! Keep only the essentials on display. Maybe it’s a beautiful vase, a stylish tray (we’ll get to those in a minute!), or a few well-chosen books. Just quality things instead of many things that clutter the surface.

8. Use trays

Use trays to store little clutter culprits like remote controls, phone chargers, or coasters, keeping them contained and visually organized. Plus, a tray can elevate your table decor, adding a touch of sophistication.

9. Declutter regularly

This might sound obvious, but it’s the most important tip of all. Here’s the thing: clutter has a way of creeping back in, no matter how organized you are. So, schedule regular decluttering sessions. Maybe it’s a quick 10-minute tidy-up every few days, or a deeper declutter once a month. The key is to be consistent and ruthless!

I personally choose to declutter a little bit every night, by putting items that do not belong in the living room where they belong. Once you get into a routine of doing this and you experience the satisfaction of get waking up to a living room you tidied the night before, you’ll be unstoppable.
